My first full blown anxiety attack woke me up. The sheets were soaked and I was sure I was having a heart attack. After 9 hours in the Emergency Room and multiple test I was told "We don't don't know what your problem is but it isn't your heart." Since that day it has pulled me from sleep numerous times. Mostly now it is for dreams that have no basis in reality. After a while I can get back to sleep. Hope this helps.

Anxiety medication often have side effect of causing vivid dreams. Vivid dreams aren't necessarily nightmares but dreams that seem very real and you can recall most of what's going on. Since we both suffer from anxiety my best advice with these dreams is to tell yourself once and once only, "This wasn't real." Then you are to think of something else that won't bring forth the what if questions. Think of an object like a clock or ceiling fan then picture it to include any flaws. Removing yourself from the thoughts often will stop the attack.

Hi, this sums up my battle with panic attacks perfectly. Luckily I don't get this too often but when it happens it really rattles me. I tend to sleep with my laptop on my bedside table so when it does happen I'll quickly pop on a movie or podcast rather than lying there with my thoughts running wild. Thankfully my wonderful wife is a very deep sleeper! :-)
