In my opinion, yes, you can... PTSD can be caused by any shocking event that pretty much shakes your foundation. While mostly thought of as a Military/Emergency Responder issue, anyone can get PTSD. I know I was diagnosed with a low level PTSD as a reaction to finding my brother-in-law passed away (and a few other issues) - depending on your reaction, and the severity of the PTSD, it will eventually downgrade to a general anxiety disorder - at least mine did...
The most important things (in my opinion) to keep in mind in regards to PTSD and getting past it are: 1) the stressor that caused it is not a reflection on you, and should not negatively impact your thoughts of yourself, and 2) The stressor is also an isolated incident, and not everyone/everything in your life is suddenly going to be against you (as anxiety in general likes to make us feel). I wish you the best in working through it (I'm assuming you asked the question because the situation happened to you...)
