Can PTSD cause psychosis?

After a traumatic period in my life (focusing around an event), I developed psychosis. Was this a direct result of the event or part of the PTSD? I'm only just realising now that I even had/have PTSD, some 13 years later.

The short answer is yes, such co-morbidity has been known to exist. Without closer examination of the situations surrounding the event it would be hard to say if it was causal. Either way it seems possible the two were related. I hope this answer helps some.
